Nutrition Counseling for Eating Disorders & Disordered Eating

professional Mentoring Sessions

Hello fellow professionals!

Do you have questions on how to get into the field of eating disorders or start your own private practice? Curious about taking insurance or if you should become a dietitian?

I would love to answer all your questions and more in one of my mentoring sessions! I cannot express how much I enjoy not only talking about my unique journey in how I became a private practice eating disorder dietitian, but also how to help guide you in yours.

When I was going through school to become a dietitian, a lot of my mentors had very limited ideas on what you could in this profession unfortunately. They were not very supportive of anyone who wanted to open a private practice and instead routed us all towards clinical (nothing wrong with clinical - it’s just one path of many). That is why I am especially passionate about providing a different mentorship style, because I know having a supportive and open mentor can make all the difference in the world!

So how does this work?

I will provide one, 45-minute mentoring session at a sliding scale rate. Since everyone is at different places in their careers, I want to be as accessible as I can for everyone.

What will we talk about?

Anything you want! I will provide a form for you to fill out before our session, in case there are any questions you have for me that would require some preparation ahead of time. Some ideas are: how to start your own private practice, how to gain more knowledge about eating disorders, transition from clinical to counseling, case consultation and more.

What does your career look like thus far, so I know what experience you have?

I graduated from San Diego State University with a BS in Food and Nutrition. I then completed my dietetic internship through Iowa State University (a distance internship that I completed in the Bay Area, CA). My first job as an RD was at an inpatient eating disorder program for adolescents called Reasons. I then worked full time clinical at Kentfield San Francisco Long Term Acute Care for 3 years while slowly transitioning full time to my private practice, Katy Gaston Nutrition, where I work with clients with eating disorders and disordered eating. I am a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor and since I opened my practice February 2020, I have been completely virtual. I use the EMR Practice Better, and have been contracted with Blue Shield of California since June 2022.

I am artsy, think astrology is fun, and define myself as a “Type B” dietitian who loves to break perfectionism and rigidity wherever possible.

Okay this all sounds great, what’s the next step?

I book all my sessions via Practice Better to make things as streamlined as possible for you and me. Click to book below to see my availability. After booking you will be sent a Pre-Session form that must be filled out before our session. Each session would be “one-off” but if you wanted to do more we can!
